A 4-star stay in a medieval Florentine palace, a short walk from the Duomo and the city's main sights.
About
Hotel Monna Lisa occupies a medieval Florentine palace on Borgo Pinti, a quiet street just outside the heaviest tourist crush. The interiors lean into the building's history: antique furnishings, frescoed ceilings, and fabric-upholstered walls in some rooms. A leafy inner courtyard offers a rare patch of peace in central Florence, and the on-site parking is a genuine bonus in a city where cars are a headache.
Breakfast is a highlight, served buffet-style with fresh pastries, cheeses, and hams. The bar in the evening is lively and well-run. Rooms range from compact singles to a family-friendly quadruple that actually splits into two separate double rooms with a shared hallway. Staff are consistently described as attentive and accommodating, and the whole property is non-smoking.

8.9Verified guest“Excellent location, set back from the center and tourist crowds—quiet, cozy, and everything is close. The medieval mansion atmosphere is wonderful, with a lovely patio for evenings. The hotel was warm in February, well-furnished and renovated, with a pleasant interior: fabric-covered walls (no dust), antique furniture in great condition, frescoed ceilings, and paintings. The plumbing was faultless, and toiletries were plentiful. Our family room for four was actually two doubles with a connecting hallway, giving us two bathrooms, two TVs, two closets, two safes, and two fully separate rooms with excellent soundproofing. Doors to the hallway could be locked, and there was always access to the kids, or we could close them off if needed. Cleaning was excellent, always done while we were out (though we were rarely in during the day). Breakfast was very high quality, though not huge in choice—we had it four times and never tired of it. Reception, dining room, and bar staff were all friendly and helpful. Overall, a great property.”
8.9Verified guest“I'd definitely recommend this hotel to anyone. The staff are excellent, friendly, and meet every guest's needs. The location is great, about 1 km from a neo-gothic Franciscan church.”
8.9Verified guest“Good location, competent and friendly staff. Large continental breakfast with an outstanding selection. Cool drinks at the garden bar, with good service.”
8.9Verified guest“What I liked most was the proximity to the main sights. Excellent breakfast and very nice decoration throughout. The staff are attentive and pleasant, especially Erika, who we dealt with most. The private parking is small and outdoors, and space is limited, so you need to book. Given how hard parking is in the city center, I thought it was fantastic to have that option.”
8.9Verified guest“I last stayed here in 1986 and always remembered how lovely and charming it was—and it still is. This time I was surprised it was much busier with guests, yet still so peaceful and quiet. The hotel is exactly as I remembered, and I'm glad because friends I recommended it to (Mr. Dan Wright) stayed during our visit and said it was everything I'd described; I think they loved it too. I'll keep recommending the Monna Lisa and will stay again whenever I'm in Florence. — Charles Arato”
8.9Verified guest“A fantastic place! The hotel is in a medieval Florentine palace (rooms are, understandably, in former utility rooms). It's a historical spot—the Patriarch of Constantinople Joseph II stayed here during the Council of Ferrara-Florence, the last attempt to unite the Catholic and Orthodox churches. So you're in touch with great history right after checking in. The interior matches that. The most picturesque Italian garden in the courtyard, a real rarity in Florence. There's its own parking (entrance from the opposite street). Rooms are clean, cozy, and beautiful. Even when you return from a tour or walk, you're still in a unique Florentine atmosphere. Breakfast had no complaints—fresh pastries, including croissants, plus the standard European spread: cheeses, hams, eggs, etc. The breakfast restaurant is top-notch in both service and dishes. Staff, efficiency, responsiveness, and cleaning are all perfect. The location is above all praise—central, with major sights on foot. Many restaurants nearby. About fifty meters to the right, across the street, there's a magnificent restaurant (you'll find it by the chairs). Next time in Florence, it's just here.”
